As climate change accelerates, Europe is entering a future where soils risk losing fertility, forests face increasing threats from drought and pests, and landscapes struggle to cope with mounting pressures. But new research shows that biodiversity itself can be key to resilience.
The European Partnership Biodiversa+ has released three new Issue Briefs from its BiodivClim Cofund Action , presenting science-based strategies to strengthen Europe’s resilience—protecting food security, biodiversity, and local communities.
The findings highlight that working with nature is one of the most effective ways to adapt to climate change.
The three issue briefs focus on:
- Living systems, living solutions: Advancing Nature-based Solutions across European landscapes.
- Soil biodiversity management: A cross-system lever for climate change mitigation, ecosystem restoration and agricultural productivity.
- Mainstreaming resilience in forest policy: From diverse ecosystems to tailored financial incentives.
The issue briefs are available in five languages, amongst them in Greek.
Creative Dissemination- BiodivClim Comics
Biodiversa+ has developed three original comics inspired by findings from the projects BiodivClim research programme
The three stories are:
- Tides of Change – A tale of mangroves, exploring their vital role in coastal ecosystems and how they are shaped by climate change.
- The Wheat Code – A story about sustainable farming, with a focus on soil health and the hidden microbial life beneath our feet.
- The Forest of Forgotten Futures – A narrative about tree connectivity and forest resilience, told through the lens of communication and cooperation in ecosystems.

Internation dimension and Greek participation
BiodivClim Cofund Action has funded 21 projects with a budget of 25Meuros (2021-2025). Greece through GSRI has funded two projects:

About Biodiversa+
Biodiversa+, the European Biodiversity Partnership, is Europe’s strategic response to biodiversity loss. Co-developed with the European Commission as part of the European Green Deal, it brings together 81 organisations from more than 40 countries, with €800M in funding over seven years (2021–2028).
Greece through GSRI has participated in three calls and funds 12 projects with 1Meuros for the BiodivProtect2021 and BiodivMon2022 calls. In the last call of BiodivConnect 2025 that closed on 7 November 2025, 277 preproposals were submitted, out of which 42 with Greek participation and a budget of 1Meuros. The results of the projects selected for funding are anticipated in the summer of 2026.
