Horizon Europe’s main aim is to maximize the scientific, economic and societal impact of Union investment in research and innovation. To this end, it will seek to attract investments from the industry and member states and strengthen the interaction between science and society.
2. STRUCTURE OF HORIZON EUROPE
The Horizon Europe Framework Programme comprises 3 pillars as well as a horizontal pillar that interacts with the first 3 pillars and supports the entire programme.
- Excellent Science
- Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness
- Innovative Europe (horizontal pillar: Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area)
3. NOVEL ELEMENTS OF HORIZON EUROPE (2021-2027)
The Horizon Europe structure and novel elements were based on the conclusions of the Horizon 2020 interim evaluation.
Νovel elements include principally launching of the European Innovation Council (EIC), missions, European R&I partnerships, a robust set of measures to bridge the gap in R&I performance (Widening) and strengthening of synergies with other Union programmes and policies at the programming and operational levels.
4. RULES FOR PARTICIPATION
The rules for participation in Horizon Europe constitute the legal framework defining conditions for participation and funding of eligible beneficiaries, proposal evaluation modalities and conditions for project implementation and monitoring including diffusion and uptake of results (e.g open access, intellectual property rights, etc.).
