The General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) informs the Greek research and innovation community that the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP) will launch its 4th Joint Transnational Co-funded Call on 14 September 2026.
The call aims to support 36-month transnational research and innovation projects contributing to Europe’s transition towards a sustainable, resilient and climate-neutral blue economy.
This year’s call is co-branded under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, providing funded projects with the opportunity to be endorsed as Ocean Decade Actions.
The call will mobilise approximately €37 million from 35 funding organisations across 28 countries.
Priority areas
Applicants will be invited to submit proposals addressing one of the following four priority areas:
- Promoting sustainable blue bioresources through innovation in marine production and harvesting;
- Transitioning the blue economy sectors for sustainability and strategic autonomy;
- Managing sea uses by advancing digital and ecosystem-based approaches;
- Building resilience in coastal communities with infrastructure and businesses.
International cooperation
Proposals are encouraged to address challenges across multiple European sea basins, including the Baltic, Black, Mediterranean, North Sea and Atlantic, while also considering regional seas such as the Aegean, Adriatic, Arctic, Barents and Celtic Seas.
Each consortium must include eligible partners from at least three participating countries requesting funding from at least three participating funding organisations.

- Launch of the Call: 14 September 2026 (15:00 CET)
- Pre-proposal deadline (provisional): 16 November 2026 (15:00 CET)
- Full proposal deadline (provisional): 14 June 2027 (15:00 CEST)
