The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH) has completed the SARS-CoV-2 genome analysis in samples received from Northern Greece during the first and second pandemic waves in collaboration with the Laboratory of Microbiology at the AUTH School of Medicine (Prof. Anna Papa).
The analysis revealed a high degree of differentiation between dominant strains from the first and second pandemic waves. This finding adds to our understanding of the epidemiology of COVID-19 and contributes significantly to improving management of the pandemic.
Systematic analysis of the virus genome is ongoing under the Flagship Research Action for the epidemiological study of SARS-CoV-2 which is supported by the General Secretary for Research and Innovation and enables, among others, genomic surveillance in Greece.
