The European Partnership for Biodiversity in the framework of Horizon Europe European Biodiversity Partnership under Horizon Europe announces that it will soon publish a new call for research proposals for the co-funding of research projects on the subject: “Improved transnational monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem change for science and society”.

The main thematic research axes of the call for tenders, as jointly decided by the participating States, without excluding other thematic areas, are the following:

  • Innovation and harmonisation of methods and tools for collection and management of biodiversity monitoring data
  • Addressing knowledge gaps on biodiversity status, dynamics, and trends to reverse biodiversity loss
  • Making use of available biodiversity monitoring data

All environments (i.e. terrestrial, inland freshwater including wetlands, and marine) will be eligible. 

The notice was officially announced on September 8, 2022.

The proposal submission process will take place in two stages:
(a) Initially, the preliminary proposals are submitted and those of them on the one hand meet the eligibility criteria and on the other hand are selected in the first stage,
(b) they will be invited to submit the completed proposals and then they will be evaluated.

The deadline for the submission of pre-proposal phase (Stage 1) will be 9 November 2022 at 15:00 CET (local time in Brussels).

The deadline for the submission of complete proposals (full proposal phase – Stage 2) will be on April 5, 2023 at 15:00 CET (local time in Brussels).

Proposals should be submitted in English and online. In order for a proposal to be eligible, it must consist of a group with bodies from at least 3 countries participating in the call (with a minimum number of two EU Member States or EU Associated Countries).

A total budget of EUR 40 million will first be allocated to the call for tenders and, at this stage, the following 34 countries have initially expressed an interest in participating in the call for tenders:
